The First Remote Control Projector I've Ever Seen

While roaming the CES floor this week, I came across what is probably the coolest projector ever made. It's not that the projector itself was all that impressive, it was the casing that it comes in.

R2D2 Projector

It also has a pair of built-in speakers, in case you're doing a multimedia presentation and need audio as well as video. And see the miniature Millennium Falcon parked next to it? That's the remote. It also has an iPod dock on the front as well as slots for memory cards and USB drives. It has a built-in MP3 player, DVD/CD drive, FM wireless audio transmission, analog and digital audio and video jacks, safety sensors (so you don't accidentally run it off the table) and it's fully motorized, including tilt (to project on the ceiling), a spinning head and authentic R2D2 sounds. Basically, it's a Mobile Entertainment System, which happens to be the name Nikko gave it. Yes, that Nikko, the ones who make the remote control vehicles.

Seriously, how much cooler does it get than that? However, if the $2500 price tag is a little too steep for you, they're also working on an R2D2 webcam/Skype phone that will put a much smaller dent in your wallet at around $350. Both products are due out the third or fourth quarter of 2007.
