Microsoft early this morning released an early copy of Windows Vista 5381 to its Connect web site for beta testers. This build is the bulid they are driving towards Windows Vista Beta 2, as reported by a number of sites. This means that the build number for Beta 2 will probably have the same major version but different minor version. This build is 5381.1 the actual Beta2 will probably be 5381.X (with x being higher than 1). Assuming they don't hit a reset.
This is good news for those of you attending WinHec in Seattle as you are very likely to get a copy of Windows Vista Beta2 and maybe Office. Office 2007 and Vista have been shooting for drop dates that are close to one another so that means we might actually see Office 2007 Beta2 around the same time.
As Andre pointed out in a previous post there have been some screenshot of builds in the 542X series that got posted over at the User Account Control blog. Utaks has some insight into why that might be. He is saying it is to help give clear seperation of the Beta2 and RC tracks.
Those of you not on the beta program and anxious to test Windows Vista your oppertunity is quickly approaching. Windows Vista Beta 2 has long been the milestone that Microsoft has target for general avilability via a Customer Preview Program (CPP).
We will have a gallery of screenshots as soon as possible here
