Seems Bill Gates was stirring up some Windows 7 news last week, while many others at Microsoft are still reluctant to discuss the product. Windows 7 for those that might not know is codename for the version currently in development.
Mary Jo and a bunch of other folks were all over recent comments by the chairman when he discussed some of the broad vision of Windows 7 features that they are targeting. You can clearly see that Live services, such as live mesh, are the target to make a more seamless experience across multiple devices in his recent comments.
"We're hard at work, I would say, on the next version, which we call Windows 7," he said. "I'm very excited about the work being done there. The ability to be lower power, take less memory, be more efficient, and have lots more connections up to the mobile phone, so those scenarios connect up well to make it a great platform for the best gaming that can be done, to connect up to the thing being done out on the Internet, so that, for example, if you have two personal computers, that your files automatically are synchronized between them, and so you don't have a lot of work to move that data back and forth. Obviously we'd all love it if people had more PCs per average, and so making that simple is important."
BetaNews thinks this means we will see a beta in a matter of WEEKS. I am not that optimistic on the timing of a beta, I think the first time most of us will see anything substantial around Windows 7 is at WinHEC later this year.
