Apple's Mobile ME where Windows Live needs to be

productnav_title20080609

I watched most of the WWDC as I am sure most watchers of technology did to see what was coming up for Apple.  The largely anticipated 3G iphone was discussed.  The next version of OSX got a code-name (Snow Leopard).  However the most interesting aspect of the event for me was the Mobile ME product.

Apple will be offering the platform agnostic Mobile Me service for $99 a year allowing you to get push mail, contacts, calendar, and more synced to your devices and maintained in the cloud.

MobileMe-1

We all know that Microsoft has been headed towards a similar service structure with its Live services as best seen in one of its latest beta's, mesh.com.  This beta offers the ability to sync files between PC's and your phone easily.  Mobile ME isn't something super special, as anyone can see Microsoft is headed here, but again Apple proves it is the master of PR and has come out with a more encompassing vision than Microsoft has articulated publicly.

I was really surprised with the integration with Outlook, and I think that is going to appeal to quite a few people.

This is really what I was hoping Microsoft would come up with, but I fear they are getting lost in the direction they are trying to take.

Ive used their mesh services with sharing files across the internet with my PC's and its a very nifty service. Microsoft could sink apple by doing the same thing and more, and doing it for free.
